DJCable x TWOBOPMIXTAPE MY BRU

A bit about DJ Cable …

3x DMC Champion, Alizé Remixed Champion, Dogs on Acid Mix Winner (just to name a few); Cable’s string of awards speak for themselves.

Not content with simply playing one record after another, Cable will mix, scratch, beat juggle, and remix live, sometimes even throwing in his own mashups and re-edits; this combined with his diverse range of bass heavy selection ranging from Hip Hop, through to Grime, Dubstep, and D&B has established himself as being one of the UK’s most in-demand DJs, as well as Yasmin’s official DJ.

Also a pioneer of the “Thugstep” sound (Dubstep x Hip Hop/Grime), his mixtapes have gained recognition on a global scale, earning him numerous opportunities to produce guest mixes for stations such as BBC 1Xtra, Kiss FM, BBC Asian Network, Rinse FM and more.

With 3 consecutive DMC titles under his belt, a unique style based on creativity and technical ability, and a digital record label on the way, real DJs such as Cable are hard to find these days.

Stiek 8 bit recap

We had our 3rd public stiek bit event at Shelf Life in December. It was a good way to end the year, attracting the fighting game devotees and some regular folk curious as to what this mishmash of geeks and cool kids were up to on a sunday afternoon. Highlights for me were some epic oldschool Sreet fighter II turbo (not super turbo) and how classic this game is after all these years. Our reigning street fighter IV champ Salie was finally beaten by Skamanke in an epic final ( He’s since regained his crown at Cape Town Showdown and won our old school Street Fighter 2 title. Crazygunjack was our inaugural Marvel vs capcom 3 champ proving to be a versatile player. He exposed my boring ryu by perfecting me out of winners in SF4. The event has us excited about doing one in Johannesburg in March or April, also Tekken X Street Fighter drops before then so should have a bunch of new players. Pics by Kent Lingeveldt

The Story

2Bop started in 2004 as a way to turn a passion for classic video games into a form of expression.

2Bop draws inspiration primarily from games that were popular in South Africa at corner shops and arcades in the1980’s and early 1990’s when gameplay was key and graphics if they were good were an added bonus. Disadvantaged areas during apartheid South Africa had little to offer in terms of exposure to cutting edge international design or computer technology but the bootleg arcade games that used twenty cent pieces (a 2Bop) to play at the corner shop were a window into what was happening in the outside world. These games granted access to excellent electronic entertainment and exposed the 2Bop crew to intuitive and engaging interface design, game design, graphic and sound design primarily from Japan and North America. And so began a long fascination with the medium that shows no signs of stopping.
